Kuwisa scoops Miss Authentic Limpopo title

Despite being new to pageants, 16-year-old Kuwisa Twala from Nkuri Sifasonke outside Giyani scooped the title of Miss Authentic Limpopo.

“My interest was sparked in 2019 when I was 11 years old when Zozibini Tunzi won Miss Universe,” she says. She says while the recognition and prestige associated with the crown are rewarding, the true reward lies in the impact she will be able to make in her community and beyond. “My greatest reward comes from knowing that I am helping to create a more just and equitable society.

I only started entering pageants last year December; Miss Authentic Limpopo was my second pageant,” she says. The opportunity to make a difference in the lives of other people and be a voice for those who are marginalised and disadvantaged, inspires her. “I advocate for education and poverty alleviation. This is because I believe that access to quality education is a fundamental right for all people, regardless of their background and economic status.

Education is not only essential for developing skills and knowledge, but it is also a powerful tool for breaking down barriers and creating social mobility,” she says.  “I have seen firsthand the impact that poverty can have on people’s lives and their ability to reach their full potential,” adds Twala. She believes that poverty is not just an economic problem but also a social problem that requires a multifaceted approach.

“That is why I am committed to developing programmes and initiatives that address poverty through education and entrepreneurship. I would advise anyone who is passionate about creating positive change and making a difference in the world to take up modelling as it will give them a platform to further their cause and make their voice heard.

“I look up to Zozibini Tunzi, Miss Universe 2019, she represents the power and beauty of authenticity. She has embraced her natural beauty and African heritage and by doing so she has broken down barriers and challenged conventional notions of what a beauty queen should look like. She inspires me to celebrate uniqueness and embrace my Authentic self,” says Twala.

She lives by the motto of lead with love. “It reminds me that true leadership is about compassion, understanding and empathy; and also that the most effective leaders are those who lead with love rather than fear and intimidation. My biggest supporters are my family and my best friend,” she concludes.
