Vutivi Makhubele, media liaison officer of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, told the Herald, that the mall will definitely be built by McCormick Property Development (MPD). John McCormick, MPD founder said construction will begin early in 2024 at a formal introduction of the developers to the community at the Nkuna Traditional Council offices in Muhlava village last year.
Since then not much has been done with Charles Mathonsi Secondary School, located where the mall is expected to be built, still operating. According to the agreement between the developers and the Department of Education, they first have to build a new school, before construction of the mall can officially start. A site to build the school has already been approved.

“The prime location will see residents save on taxi fares to Tzaneen, leaving more disposable income for buying essentials. With all plans and rights approved by GTM, construction is planned to start in 2024, with the anticipated mall opening in 2025. “We are absolutely thrilled that the rights for Dan City Mall have finally been approved; we have always seen the potential of this region,” McCormick said in 2023.
The Herald sent questions to MPD regarding the project’s progress, but no response was received at the time of going to print. The Herald has noticed a fence along the R36 towards the Muhlava area from the Charles Mathonsi School, which indicates that construction might start soon.
