Hlomela road paving is to be completed soon

The community of Hlomela village will soon have a paved road as the contractor is progressing well.

He is said to have already completed the ‘box cutting’ or initial grading or shaping of the road surface to prepare it for further construction. According to Greater Giyani Municipality (GGM) municipal spokesperson, Steve Mavunda, the contractor is currently upgrading existing services and processing the roadbed, a process that involves preparing the foundation of the road.

This includes compacting and shaping the underlying soil or materials to create a stable base for the pavement. Each of these steps is crucial in the road construction process to ensure that the upgraded road is durable and meets safety standards. “As a municipality, we want to ensure that we build quality roads for our communities.

This is why we ensure that the contractor does not cut corners wherever we do a road paving project,” he said. Currently, the GGM is constructing a three-kilometre ring road in the village as part of its programme to build ring roads in villages around Giyani to enhance community movement, which would in turn, boost economic activity in the areas concerned.

Another 3.6km ring road is being constructed at Shawela village, a boost for taxi drivers who badly need good roads to transport commuters. In addition to constructing ring roads, the municipality is currently completing the refurbishment of old streets in Sections A and D1. In both of the sections, road construction is almost complete, including on the road leading to Nkhensani Hospital from Usave, and the one going from the Giyani Police Station to town.
