She opened the centre in 2013 after identifying a need to take care of children in the community. She helps with homework, teach life skills and also gives them a meal, which to most of the children is their only meal of the day. According to her, alcohol abuse by adults and youngsters in the area is rife. Gogo Faith retired in 2005 as a schoolteacher, but her love for children did not allow her to leave the kids wandering around the streets of Kurhula.
“One day I came across a group of children in the street and asked them where they were going. They replied they were on their way to the dumping area to look for food. It shattered my heart. I then decided to open a centre to help feed these children,” she said. Her biggest challenge is groceries, she has no funding and buys food from her own pocket. “It is hard to run such a centre without proper funding, but I believe God will help us, to get funding,” she added.

The centre currently occupies a two-room building which leaks when it rains. However, she appreciates the support she receives from the community, and the parents of the learners as they can see the impact it has on their children. “We have organisations such as the Soul Liberation Organisation, who come to share life skills and the word of God with the youngsters.”
