Zanele dreams of one day becoming a presenter

She is a poet known for reciting poems in appreciation of the mayor’s family lineage during council sittings at the Greater Giyani Municipality.

Zanele Zitha (25) is one of Giyani’s unemployed youths struggling to make ends meet amid the country’s economic crisis. However, unlike others, she has a talent that she is actively pursuing to improve her life. Her talent for poetry has seen her invited to participate in multiple events that include acting out her poems. However, despite her success in poetry, she says her ultimate goal is to become a presenter.

“While I’m looking forward to one day publishing a collection of my poems, my other dream is to become a radio or TV presenter,” she says, adding that performing her poems has always been part of her life. “My years of writing and reciting poems have made me accustomed to performing on stage. “This is why I want to be a presenter so people can see me reporting the news on television,” she says.

Meanwhile, Zanel is currently doing an agricultural learnership in animal production at Capricorn TVET College, a course that is far removed from her dream job. “One has to do what is offered on the table. “The rest will come as life unfolds,” she says when asked about her choice of course. In addition to what she does, Zanel is also a participant and finalist in Miss Limpopo Heritage, a beauty pageant that honours not just beauty but also personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable endeavours.

As part of her social engagement assignment, she must collect school shoes and sanitary towels to donate to local schools of her choice before the finals in Thohoyandou on September 23. “This task is designed to determine whether a participant has a heart for other people and can donate to the needy. “I am not only looking for a donation of shoes and sanitary towels but also school uniforms or jerseys,” she says.
