DJ Mahumani brings excitement to events

Evans Shirinda, widely known as DJ Mahumani from Magangeni village outside Giyani, has proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with.

The 39-year-old DJ, MC and event organiser brings excitement to every occasion with his love for music spanning from rhumba to kwaito, and reggae to house. His skills on the jukebox and talent for crafting playlists have earned him the nickname, Zouk, among friends. “I established Mahumani Entertainment in 2012 to empower young people through traditional South African dances, instilling pride in their cultural heritage and providing a positive outlet for the youth.

My commitment extends to initiatives in soccer and netball, guiding young minds towards a brighter future,” he says. Shirinda says he went to Shihlobyeni Primary School and then to Lemana High School. Armed with his camera in 2003, he began documenting local events and gatherings, quickly becoming a presence at celebrations throughout his community. In 2006 he was invited by DJ Moss from Rivoni village to host an event. Embracing the opportunity, he transitioned into the role of MC, captivating audiences with his enthusiasm.
