Mediclinic Tzaneen honours nurses with special awards

They were spoiled with gifts and lunch in celebration of International Nurses Day and saw two of their rank receive coveted Daisy Awards.

The nursing staff at Mediclinic Tzaneen gathered for a special occasion at Ivory Tusk Lodge recently.  “We celebrate the birthday of Florence Nightingale on May 12, and we still follow in her footsteps by using data to daily monitor our services, care, and clinical outcomes,” said Stephanie Hermann, the nurse manager at Mediclinic Tzaneen.

She also compared nursing as a profession to the delicate, yet resilient daisy flower. “Like a daisy, nurses are often the first to emerge in times of darkness, bringing hope and comfort to those in need. Just as the daisy’s petals unfold to reveal its inner beauty, nurses reveal their compassion and dedication in every interaction with patients. “Just as the daisy stands tall against the wind, nurses face challenges head-on, standing strong in the face of adversity and providing steadfast support for patients and colleagues.

“Like the interconnected petals of a daisy, nurses work collaboratively, forming a cohesive team that ensures holistic care of each patient under their watch. “But perhaps most importantly, much like a daisy symbolises innocence and purity, nurses embody the purest intentions, selflessly devoting themselves to the well-being of others with kindness, empathy, and unwavering dedication,” said Hermann. The International Daisy Award for extraordinary nurses was awarded to two honourees from Mediclinic Tzaneen. Patients and members of the public nominate nurses for this prestigious award.

Professional nurse, Tsakani Maymele, and enrolled nursing auxillary, Nonkululeko Khoza each received a certificate, a beautiful healing hand trophy, and a special daisy pin for their compassion and dedication to patient wellbeing. In addition to the Daisy Awards, four nurses were also honoured by Mediclinic Tzaneen. Ellah Makgoba, a professional nurse, received the mentorship award and Fumani Phakula, professional nurse, received a service merit award. Enrolled nurse, Grace Mohale was honoured with the Star Award for the best team player and Ntwanano Mashele, enrolled nurse, received a special merit award.
