Secret of ‘sex house’ owner in Tzaneen unveiled

Questions about who owns the house which is across the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) offices in Agatha Street, were finally answered.

In February the Herald reported on the infamous house trying to find answers about who owns the house. It is believed that the house is used by sex workers who operate in the Agatha Street area. The Limpopo spokesman for the Department of Public Works, Witness Tiva, confirmed to the Herald that the house belongs to the national Department of Public Works.

After reporting on the dilapidated house, the Herald was approached by readers on the ongoings observed at the house. An employee in the offices situated across the road from the house, said apart from sex workers using the house, homeless people use it as a refuge. “We don’t feel safe and don’t understand why the police and the municipality are not doing something to clean it up and install some security.

“It is filthy and lately washing hangs on the fence which is right in the street. At times smoke comes from the veranda.” She said some days they find beer bottles and used condoms in front of their offices. Another person in the vicinity told the Herald they believed that recent break-ins at their offices could be attributed to the dwellers in the house.

“I heard from residents who have been living in town for decades that the house belongs to the police,” the anonymous source explained. The house has graffiti saying, ‘Come come mpetweni’ translating to ‘Come come to bed’. It also advertises sex for R100 at the front of the stoep. At the time of print, no comment was received from the Department of Public Works nationally despite numerous attempts to contact them.
