Infrastructure MEC outlines school groundwork plans

Infrastructure MEC Nkakareng Ragoale said she believes learners deserve to be taught in completed, functional and safe school environments that are conducive for learning and teaching.

She delivered her department’s 2024/25 budget speech recently, saying the department has been hard at work delivering quality school infrastructure. “In the 2019/20 financial year, the department completed 12 storm damaged schools across the province. In Mopani these are Khetho Nxumalo Agricultural, Thirhani Primary School, Zava Secondary School, and Mahuntsi, Motlhatlego Machaba and Malebalong primary schools.

In the 2022/23 financial year, the department completed construction on five school infrastructure projects and in Mopani it was Marude Primary School,” she said. She added that in the 2023/24 financial year, they started construction of 27 school projects across the province. “Seven of these projects have been completed and 16 new projects will be completed in the 2024/25 financial year. Four will be completed in the 2025/6 financial year.

In Mopani, the department commenced with the construction of Diphuti Primary School at The Oaks, Chameti Secondary School at Mushiyani village, Ramatimana Secondary School at Molototsi village in Bolobedu, Sehonwe Secondary School at Sedibeng village in Bolobedu and we are also completing NapÅ¡adi Secondary School at Makgaung village and Ngwana MakhutÅ¡we Secondary School at Sofaya village,” said Rakgoale.

She said that they continue to put their best foot forward in the education space and currently, 19 new schools projects are planned for construction in the 2024/25 financial year. “In Mopani, these are Ooghoek Primary School in Ooghoek village, Runnymede Primary School in N’wamitwa, Vallambrosa Primary School in Mokgwathi, Makgopele Secondary School in Skhiming, Matimu Secondary School in Khujwana and Ukuthula Primary School in KaRhangani village.

The successful planning and implementation of these infrastructure projects will be realised through continued collaborative efforts and commitment by both the implementing department and the client,” she concluded.
