Hoedspruit mourns beloved resident

The De Boer and Joubert families in Hoedspruit are grieving the loss of their beloved Sherry who bravely battled Hodgkin’s lymphoma for more than thirteen years.

Sherry de Boer passed away on Sunday, March 10, leaving behind a legacy of strength and courage. “Our hearts are shattered. We will remember Sherry as a most beautiful soul with exceptional tenacity and spirit. “She gave us our most beautiful and precious KaydonRein.

“We will love her forever, our beautiful Sherry,” said Sherry’s father-in-law, Anthony de Boer, reflecting on the deep loss felt by the family. Herald has been following Sherry’s battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma since the family began raising funds for her treatment. Last month, the Herald reported on the setback she faced after her initially successful stem cell transplant in mid-2023.

Over the past month and a half she faced tremendous difficulties as a Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection took hold in her already weakened body. “Despite the initial success, she contracted an CMV infection that proved to be relentless. “The medical team treating Sherry exhausted various expensive treatments from around the world, but the infection persisted, causing Sherry to suffer significant weight loss as her body fought this aggressive disease.

“An MRI scan revealed that the CMV infection had led to infections in various vital organs,” Anthony said. Sherry’s story has touched many hearts, and her strength in the face of adversity has been an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community of Hoedspruit.
