Thabina Circuit celebrates good grades

Thabina Circuit hosted its excellence awards ceremony at Tivumbeni Multi-Purpose Centre Hall on Friday January 26.

The circuit obtained an 80.8% pass rate, an improvement from 2022’s 71.4% pass rate. The event honoured the three best performing learners in Gr 12, top three schools, top performing teachers per subject and top learners per grade. Phusela High School was in first place with a 97.97% pass rate, followed by Nelson Ramodike High School with a 92% pass rate, third is Sekaba High School with 88.77%, followed by Seboye with 82.14%.

 

In fifth is Bessie Maake with 80.95, Ramoba High School is in sixth place with 80.31%, seventh is Serare Secondary School with 79.31%, eighth is Napscom Secondary School with a 75.63%, ninth is Mafutsane Secondary School with 74.31%, tenth is Mabushe Secondary School with 72.41%, and eleventh is Matseutseu High School with 70.83%.

Dr Nkhensani Mbhalati, circuit manager of Thabina Circuit, said all her schools obtained a pass rate of over 70%. According to the Department of Education, a school or a circuit underperforms when it is below 70%. Rhedani Mahafa from Ramoba High School was named best performing learner in Gr 12 with a 90.05% average pass. Mbhalati took over the circuit in May 2021.

At the time it had a 60% pass rate for seven consecutive years. She told the Herald that her secret is motivating teachers and learners, and to lead with kindness. She also involves all stakeholders including the traditional authorities of Bakgakga Ba Maake and Thabina.
