Solar needed to help rescued pangolins

Umoya Khulula Wildlife Centre is seeking to install solar panels for its pangolin rehabilitation programme.

Umoya is a non-profit rehabilitation centre working with an array of wildlife including the endangered Temminck ground pangolin.

“We are desperately in need of funds for solar panels to help rehabilitate pangolins that have been victim to poaching and electrocution,” said Emma De Jager of Umoya Khulula Wildlife Centre.

“With load-shedding interrupting power supply and with soaring temperatures during summer months, it is critical for us to keep the pangolins cool in their specialised rooms. Without power, we cannot do this and to run a generator is costing the centre a fortune and is not sustainable.

“Therefore, we want to raise funds for solar panels so that we can still use our air conditioning units for the animals during loadshedding,” she said. For more information, contact De Jager at 083 272 3220.
