Maruleng promises to solve Worcester’s water problem

Maruleng Local Municipality (MLM) Mayor Tsheko Musolwa held a mayoral imbizo on Sunday, November 12 in Worcester outside Hoedspruit.

During question time, Musolwa promised the Worcester community that their water challenges would be addressed and as temporary relief, water tankers would be made available to provide water. “The water in the tanker that is on-site during this imbizo will be distributed amongst the residents after the imbizo.” MLM’s acting spokesperson, Paulinah Malapane, said that an imbizo promotes the active involvement and participation of the public in the implementation of government programmes.

“This should happen as the norm on a continuous basis, but there will be certain periods of intensified public participation across government by cabinet members, premiers, mayors, and other senior government officials coming into active contact with different sectors of society. “Community members are given an opportunity to ask questions and seek clarity regarding municipal services,” she said.

Another issue that was raised at the imbizo, was that of the Roman Rollers soccer team that qualified for the provincial league. She said the mayor will meet with the team managers to discuss how they can assist. She also said that the Worcester graveyard’s fencing was in the budget for 2023/24. “The graveyard will be fenced before June 2024.” She said that residents’ complaints about RDPs at the imbizo were registered by the municipal housing coordinator.

“Priority will be given to those really in need. The allocation for RDP houses will be allocated to the needy.” She said children in need will be donated goodie packages by the Office of the Mayor no later than Friday last week. “The mayor assured the Worcester community that their water challenges will be resolved. “The mayor and his entourage visited some of the households around Ward 6 to acknowledge the challenges faced,” she concluded.
