Working on Fire’s Anania shines at national netball championships

A crew leader for Working on Fire (WOF) in Giyani was a member of the Mopani Netball Team who participated in the 2023 SPAR National Netball Championships held in Rustenburg from October 1 to October 7.

WOF’s Anania Mabunda was part of the team that won 39-38 against Ethekwini during the final round earning them third place in the tournament.

“I am grateful to the WOF programme for its consistent fitness training sessions at the base, which provided me with the physical and mental strength needed to excel in the tournament,” she said. “Since I am not always able to train with the team as I now live in Elim, I made sure that I trained for the tournament on my own over weekends.”

She said she has to travel to Nkowankowa whenever there are trials to attend. “I started in 2012 at WOF when I joined the high-altitude team as a rope technician. “At WOF fitness is important and we run 2.4km and do situps and pushups every day.

It helps me to stay fit and active. “It was great to have represented the Mopani District in the netball tournament. With the help of my coach, Joseph Nkuna, made it possible,” she added.
