Farmers learn all on how to use pesticides safely

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Phalaborwa held an information day to promote the safe use of pesticides.

Officials from NTK Tzaneen, Sipho Shipalana and Sydwell Kubayi, gave presentations on how to use pesticides and fertilisers for tomato production safely. Farmers from Namakgale, Makhushane, Mashishimale, Boelang, Lulekani and Benfarm attended the event, together with officials from the department’s Phalaborwa and Mopani offices.

The session took place at Nghalani Farm between Ngulube Lodge and Abelana North Gate. Farmers were also enlightened on the importance of protective clothing to avoid contamination during the application of chemicals. NTK also exhibited pesticides, protective clothing, seed, and fertilisers. Farmers at Nghalani are taught on how to use pesticides.

Emelda Tintswalo Shipalana
