The event had a variety of activities including the Miss Bosveld Festival 2023 pageant, live performances by artists such as Conrad Rowels, Horton Griffiths, and Pieter Smith among others.
Magicians and balloon artists entertained the little ones, while adults leisurely enjoyed the stalls and car dealerships showing the latest models. The two-day festival was organised by Anita Mavasa of VJM Events.
Mavasa said the aim of the event was to bring the community together and to help charities and organisations to raise funds. The pageant was held on Friday evening with categories ranging from Mini Miss Bosveld, Little Miss Bosveld, Pre-Teen Miss Bosveld and Miss Teen Bosveld. Miss Teen Bosveld was won by Naledi Maake from Phalaborwa, a Gr 10 learner at Lowveld Academy in Hoedspruit. She told the Herald that she was excited and surprised that she won.

At the end of the pageant, the models were overwhelmed when they learned that out of the 36 participants, eight of them had been given an opportunity to go to Bulgaria next year. The exciting announcement was made by Riana Du Plooy, who was one of the judges. The models were selected by Amanda Kriel of Amone Modelling Academy in Pretoria who holds the licenses of 32 international pageants.
On Saturday the festivities started with a colour walk and followed by a dog show. The dog show categories included the waggiest tail, the prettiest female, the most handsome, and the best little adult dog. All the proceeds from the dog show went towards the Phalaborwa Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), an animal shelter. Mawasa concluded by thanking everyone who was part of the festival and believes that next year’s version is going to be even bigger and better.
