Maponyana dances to his own beat

When people made fun of Rhulani ‘Maponyana’ Baloyi dancing to his Bluetooth speaker in the shopping malls, they did not that one day he will become a sensation.

Maponyana became famous after people took videos of him dancing at random places, shopping malls during  the Covid-19 pandemic. He always carries his Bluetooth speaker which he uses to play music to. “There was a time where I did not fully embrace my dancing skills and love for music, because people used to call me crazy.

This changed when I met actor, Fumani Shilubana who encouraged me to embrace my unique talent and not to allow critics to discourage me from pursuing my gift.Maponyana was born and bred in Elim, he later moved to Giyani. His love for dancing, music, entertaining kids at church, as a Sunday school teacher.

“When radio stations and others showed interest in my talent and that is when I embraced my ‘craziness’ as it is was opening great doors for me,” he said. Maponyana also calls himself the children’s president.  He says he finds kids easy to get long with and are not judgmental. Now everywhere he is kids are all around him. He told the Herald that dancing flows in his blood, all he wants to do is to make people happy.

He has recently released a new single called ‘month-end’ which is available on all online music streamline platforms. When he is not on stage over weekends, he hosts events for kids events in the Giyani area, where he provides jumping castles and swimming pools. He also plays a mentor role to Morne ‘mulungu’ Lotter, he has been instrumental in teaching Mulungu how to dance the Xitsonga traditional dance called xibelana.  Maponyana can be followed on all social media platforms.
