Mopani District police choose junior leaders

A Grade 9 learner from Kingfisher Private School, Musa Motloutsi, walked away as the overall winner in a junior leadership competition hosted by the police in the Mopani District.

He was also named the new junior district commissioner of SAPS Mopani. Participants, all grade 8 and 9 learners from across the district had to unpack the theme, “As a junior district commissioner, what can you do to fight substance abuse and bullying”. An independent panel from the Department of Education, the Police Secretariat, and the Department of Transport and Community Safety judged the presentations by the participants.

The panel also named Jessica Malatji from Maphokwane High School in Mashishimale as the junior visible policing commander of the Mopani District. Other winners included Tokollo Nchabeleng from Lowveld Academy in Tzaneen who was named junior detective commander; Christina Magoro from Makome Secondary School in Haernertsburg who won junior head of support services; and Precious Van Wyk from Makala Secondary School in Sekgosese.

These contestants will represent Mopani at a provincial event. The event was attended by the district commissioner of Mopani, Gen Willy Mashava, who welcomed all the participants, independent judges, teachers, and parents.

Some senior officers who attended the event included the deputy district commissioner, Brig Mary Mashila, the station commander of Giyani, Brig Solomon Serakwane, and other station commanders. Serakwane thanked the learners who participated and wished them well in their studies.
