Construction of the R3 billion Dan City to start in 2024

The company starts its relationship with the local community by awarding bursaries to four students from Dan village at the Nkuna Traditional Council in Muhlava Village recently. The learners are Mamlatse Letsoalo, Kgolofelo Molewa, Kgolofelo Molewa and Nkateko Mathonsi; they are the best learners from Magoza Secondary School and Charles Mathonsi Secondary from last year. Principals of both schools, parents of the learners, the Dan Community Trust, the Va Nkuna traditional council, and MPD founder, John McCormick, attended the ceremony. Every year the company will award bursaries to best performing learners in the region.

The Dan City mixed-use development will be situated on the R36 and will be MPD’s largest rural retail development to date at 146 000m2. As a result of this, Charles Mathonsi Secondary School will be moved to another site which has been approved. This will be the company’s third project in the region, following Maake Plaza and Mahlakung Mall at Ga-Sekororo.

The site will include a motor city, hospital and school. The prime location will see residents saving on taxi fares to Tzaneen town leaving more disposable income for buying essentials. With rights approved by the Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s planning tribunal, work is planned to start early 2024 with an anticipated mall opening in 2025. “We are absolutely thrilled that the rights for Dan City Mall have finally been approved; we have always seen the potential of this region,” said McCormick.
