An unconfirmed number of passengers who were in a white 4×4 Toyota bakkie that collided with a hippopotamus on the R81 road were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The road is clear but motorists are urged to be vigilant when driving in this area since wildlife roams and crosses the road at night.
The Department of Transport and Community Safety media liaison Tidimalo Chuene said that the case of the involved vehicle was attended by Modjadjiskloof SAPS. “The occupants of the vehicle were not found when the police got to the scene. The animal was unfortunately cut into pieces by other motorists, and nothing was left,” she said.
