Connectivity helps save lives with new tower at hospital

After years of having network challenges, the Letaba Hospital recently received a 4G Vodacom tower.

The Department of Health’s MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba officially unveiled the tower. The MEC said the tower would assist health workers to attend to emergencies quicker and that they will also be able to help local facilities with emergency procedures virtually. “Healthcare without a reliable network is just a dream, as connectivity helps save lives. Vodacom you have invested in saving lives,” she said.

The local hospital is part of the five hospitals in Limpopo to have received towers, including Louis Trichardt, Witpoort, and Tshilidzini hospitals at a total cost of R6 million. “We recognise that we have the responsibility to make a difference in society through our core capabilities as a business.

Through our investment in digital technology solutions, we are helping to bring life-changing opportunities and critical essential services, including healthcare, to more customers in the region. “Our partnership with government and other stakeholders only enhances this goal to bridge the digital divide,” said the managing executive for Vodacom’s Limpopo region, Ridwaan Soomra.

Soomra said their biggest concern is theft and vandalism of their infrastructure due to load-shedding. He also added that communities must start protecting the infrastructure and must also report criminality. Meanwhile, the clinical manager of Letaba Hospital, Dr. Mikia Ramothwala, said the tower is life-saving as ambulances can be dispatched much quicker.
