Troy’s surgery is a success

Herald is happy to announce that Troy Matthysen's surgery which was scheduled for Wednesday, March 29 was a great success, and is on his journey to recovery.

“Wow what a testimony, what a miracle, and what a journey. Troy is out of the theatre. The surgery could not have gone better. The tumour was the size of the doctor’s fist. They removed everything they had planned to remove. It was flawless. Only God. Praise Jesus. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the prayers and love and support. It is an amazing testimony of the love of God through the people of God. No words can express my gratitude,” said Jeff Matthysen, Troy’s father.
Troy received a pre-op embolisation procedure on Monday, March 27 before going in for surgery to remove brain tumours on Wednesday, March 29. Troy was diagnosed with Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma (JNA), a rare disease that affects adolescent boys, at the end of 2021 and received an operation last year to remove a benign vascular tumour. Two more tumours appeared a few months later and were scheduled to be removed on Wednesday (March 29).

Mark Lewis, a friend of the Matthysen family and director of Jahara Treatment Centre assisted the family in raising the R500 000 needed for the operation. “These are complicated procedures with some serious risks such as a stroke, blindness, death, and brain damage,” said Jeff Matthysen, Troy’s father. The pre-op procedure on Monday was intended to reduce complications and risks for Wednesday’s operation. “The surgery can take between one and seven hours depending on how far they can go.
We pray that God guides the surgeon’s hands and that He opens pathways so that the work can be done. We pray and trust for a miraculously successful surgery. Thank you for the support this far, we now need prayers and faith,” Jeff told the Herald on Monday at the time of going to print.
