SAAF Gym hosts course

At least 93 members from various units of the South African Air Force (SAAF) have reported to the South African Air Force Gymnasium (SAAF Gym) to undergo a noncommissioned officer (NCO) forming course which started on Monday, January 30.

Addressing the 68 men and 25 women during a welcoming ceremony, the commanding officer of SAAF Gymnasium, Col Mokibelo Jerry Magana told the new learners to remain disciplined and focused and to commit themselves to completing what they came for. Capt Thomas Mulaudzi, liaison officer at SAAF Gym said that Magana further urged them to adapt to the environment in Hoedspruit as the area becomes very hot and sometimes very dry.

“Work hard as a team to succeed in your course,” stated Magana. According to the wing commander, Maj Mario van der Westhuizen, the course will last ten weeks, ending on April 6. He said that the system is aimed at equipping learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to function effectively to the benefit of the organisation.

Learners will cover matters such as air power, communications, leadership and management, military studies, civic education, noncommissioned officers guide as well as how a regimental parade works, Van der Westhuizen said.
