Lulekani has new top cop

Lulekani Police Station welcomed a new station commander, Lt Col Musa Maswanganyi, in December last year.

Maswanganyi joined the police in 2000 and started her career at the Giyani Police Station in crime prevention as a constable. Her passion for teaching led her to join the human resources development office in Gauteng as a warrant officer where she worked as an instructor at the Tshwane SAPS Academy. In 2010 she joined Hlanganani SAPS and a year later she returned to Giyani as a captain and served at the Vispol unit.

In 2018 she was deployed to the Mopani District Cluster and in July last year transferred to Mokwakwaila. She says the secret to her success is humility and being focused. The station commander has a proactive policing approach and has established a spiritual crime prevention campaign while serving in Mokwakwaila. Together with her team, they visited churches on Sundays in order to conduct crime
awareness campaigns.

The strategy put Mokwakwaila SAPS on the map after it showed a decline in criminal activities, especially, contact crimes. She attributes her success to her love for God. “I am a God-fearing person, I cannot start my day without inviting the Almighty God into my daily activities,” Maswanganyi said. “I believe in teamwork and have already started contacting the tribal authorities.” She said she hopes to work closely with the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, CPF, and other role players.

Maswanganyi further said that despite the hard work of the police, there is still a high rate of illegal mining and public violence in Lulekani. She sent a stern warning to criminals and encouraged community members to start working with the SAPS and join community police forums (CPF). “My team and I will continue serving the police with pride and honour. Criminal activities are our enemy number one.

“Moreover, let us create a limited space for gender-based violence perpetrators. My office is open 24/7 for any complaints and compliments,” she concluded.
