Small business supported as owners showcase products at pop-up market

Mopani District Municipality (MDM) held its pop-up market for small business owners to showcase and market their businesses to customers on Friday, November 4 in Tzaneen.

“The important thing is that the circulation of the money stays here in Mopani. Those of us who have an interest in the circulation of money and business, are to maintain the circulation in our district,” said Maripe Mangena, the acting executive mayor at MDM “There is money in our district, but each and every person has to start to do something which they feel will generate an income. The purpose is to make sure that everyone has an opportunity, and that is the reason why we appreciate the presence of the agencies which have been established by our government.

“Banks are present today to advise on ways to invest money and help with financial advice,” said Mangena. Greater Tzaneen Economic Development Agency (Gteda) acting CEO, Velly Mulaudzi said that small business owners should work together with Gteda to create successful businesses which government will assist with funding. We are working to register all small businesses to enable us to request funds from the government. Some are registered but they do not comply in terms of the law,” said Mulaudzi.

He said some registered businesses do not submit tax returns. “When they apply for funding, they are unable to access the support. We at Gteda help train small business owners in managing their businesses, and we plead with all business owners to let us help them in making their businesses a success,” he said. One of the participating business owners Mmapula Lesailane of Mater Pluviam Holdings (MPH), an award-winning agriscience company located in Tzaneen, said participating in the market contributes to growth in their business.

“The market aims to give local business owners an opportunity to network and engage with stakeholders from different sectors. MPH is proud to see clients that have attended our agri-science training workshops also displaying their produce,” Lesailane said. “With the global movement towards a sustainable and just future, MPH aims to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and its application in the agricultural industry. We look forward to working with local farmers to assist them to farm sustainably and contribute to growing our local economy,” she said.
