On Saturday, August 13, community members led by headman, Joyce Hlatswayo, started to clear an area around a stream that cuts them off from having easy access to services. Members of the community arrived in their numbers with working tools ready to get their hands dirty to clear the site.
According to community member, Bongani Ndashe, the bridge is essential as it will provide a shorter route into the settlement.
Currently they have to take a detour which is not only far, but also takes a long time to walk. They believe the bridge will help them to have quick access to services such as health care and the police.
“We have decided to work on it every Saturday.
“Our main challenge is the lack of resources to build a proper bridge, but we are committed in making this project a success.
“We will all be donating materials and working tools that are required for the project to go ahead,” Ndashe explained.

He said that they have been in contact with the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality and councillors to assist with their plea for a bridge but to no avail.
The community is appealing to businesses, builders and anyone who can assist with expertise knowledge in construction, cement and building materials to contact them.
At the time of going to press the Herald was unable to reach the municipality for a comment.
