Giyani police start seven inquest inquiries

The police in Giyani have opened inquests into the deaths of seven people who died in different incidents.

The first incident happened on Thursday, August 4 in the afternoon at Mavalani village outside Giyani when a 41-year-old man, identified as Khawirisa Joseph Maluleke, was found hanging from the roof of his house. The second incident happened at Makhuva village on Friday morning, August 5 when the body of an 80-year-old man was also found hanging from the roof of his house. He was identified as Alberto Ngobeni.

The third incident happened at N’wamarhanga village near Dzumeri on Saturday, August 6. A 16-year-old girl died on her way to the hospital after she was vomiting for two days. She was identified as Khumbhulani Maluleke, a grade 10 learner at Nyumbani High School in Ndhambhi. The fourth incident occurred on Monday, August 8 at Nkomo 22b village when another man was found hanging from the roof of his house. He was identified as 34-year-old Tiyiselani Mokgalaka, residing at Nkomo village.

In another hanging incident in Ngove village outside Giyani, a 28-year-old man was found hanging from the roof of his house. He was identified as Godsave Kubayi. Also on Monday, August 8, an 80-year-old grandmother was found dead in her yard in Xivulani village. She was identified as Mthabini Makhubela. On Tuesday, August 9 a wall of a house collapsed onto a man who was working as a builder next to Mopani Spar.

He was taken to hospital and later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as a 32-year-old Godfrey Mabasa from Thomo village. The station commander of Giyani Police Station, Brig Serakwana Cks, urged the community to reach out to the relevant structures to assist if they face challenges or problems in their lives. All cases are under investigation and the motives are still unknown.
