Limpopo matrics improve their results with 5.4%

The matric class of 2022 in Limpopo achieved a 72.1% pass rate, a 5.4% improvement from the 2021 pass rate of 66.7%.

MEC of Education in the province, Mavhungu LeruleRamakhanya, said she was proud of the learners’ achievements as they rose from the ashes. “The long hours and the hard work have paid dividends. Our learners have made us proud, they have given us hope and demonstrated that the sky is indeed the limit,” the MEC said. She was speaking during the 2022 matric exam results announcement at the Ranch Hotel in Polokwane on Friday, January 20.

According to the MEC, a total of 111 618 learners had registered for the academic year, making them the highest number of Grade 12 learners administered by the province. However, only 110 295 learners managed to write all their subjects. The matriculants managed to produce 32 878 bachelor passes, an increase of 4803 when compared to the 28 075 bachelor passes attained in 2021. They also produced 19 733 distinctions, 1982 more than 2021’s 17 751 distinctions.

Mogalakwena district was named the best district and the most improved with a pass rate of 78.3%. In 2020 the district’s pass rate was 66.7% and in 2021 it attained 72.1%, an improvement of 6.2% in 2022. Rivoni Special School for the Blind in Vhembe East (Elim), was once again named the best-performing public special needs school. The ever-performing Mbilwi Secondary School in Vhembe East was named the best-performing ordinary public school.

Northern Academy Secondary School was named the best performing independent school in the province with 200 bachelors out of 439 learners. Some of the learners who managed to attain 300/300 include Thato Mailula from St. George College in Nkowankowa, who attained full marks in Mathematics; Matsie Magoro from Ramatau Secondary School in Makhutswe circuit (Mathematics); and Immanuel Mahlaku from Ramatau Secondary earned full marks in the Physical Science exam.
