Merensky’s class of 2022 officially bids goodbye

Friday 21 October was once again time for tissues and bittersweet memories during the class of 2022's traditional prize-giving and closing function in the school hall at Merensky Agricultural Academy.

The prize-giving and farewell ceremony for the class of 2022 started off with an inspiring message to all the matrics, their parents and governing body members by Pastor Hannes Steyn.

As usual, the SAVF Kleuterskool’s grade Rs and the grade 1s from Tzaneen Primary School sang appropriate farewell songs to the school leavers. The grade 1s also handed out personal notes and treats.

The leaders and deputies of surrounding primary schools delivered farewell messages. Thank you to Tzaneen Primary School’s Carmé Louw, Eddie Mostert, Liné Brits and Cohen Dreyer. Dr. Annecke Primary School was represented by Welmi Joubert, Chrisjan Genis, Chantené Shoeman and Riaan de Kock. Neoné Swart and Bradley Molewa represented Duiwelskloof Primary School.

The audience was treated to a vocal solo by Tamar Kellerman, after which videos and photos from the past five years were shown.

The matrics also had the opportunity to ring the cattle bell for the last time. This ceremony turns a Blueblooded Plasie into a Thoroughbred Plasie and was their last official activity in the school hall.

Since 2021, every matric received a graduation cap that was thrown into the air outside the hall.

The former leaders, Johan van den Heever and Luané Maré, lighted the symbolic M outside the hall. The learners then concluded with Merensky in Union while the emotional parents looked on.
