It is alleged that the suspect, who is now deceased, took his two daughters and indicated he was going to kill them. The police were called and along the way, they were stopped by community members walking with the bloodied surviving 7-year-old child. The child took them to the spot where the tragic incident happened and on arrival, the police found the 2-year-old child already dead from apparent strangulation and the father hanging from a tree.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that both children were allegedly staying with the deceased suspect and that the mother was in Gauteng. “We urge people who might be experiencing relationship challenges to seek assistance and desist from resorting to violence,” said Hadebe. Police have opened cases of murder, attempted murder, and an inquest docket The investigation is ongoing.
