On Saturday 26 February 2022, Palabora Mining Company (PMC) will launch its inaugural PMC Family half Marathon. The purpose of this event is to rejuvenate our employees, promote health and wellness within our stakeholders and surrounding communities including the bigger South African population.

Participation in this event is encouraged nationwide; entry is free and open to all age groups. Winners will be awarded cash prizes of over R140 000,00 on the day. All participants will receive medals for completion of the different race events. Prospective participants can register for free by completing the entry form here

Due to COVID-19 compliance our numbers are capped at 1 000, 500, 500 for 21.1 Km, 10 Km and 5 Km respectively.

The following will be the activities of the day:

This event is also meant to mitigate against the impact of the phenomenal COVID-19 global pandemic which hit us very hard in the year 2020. The hard lockdown resulted in the suspension of all sporting activities in an effort to curb the spread of the virus and in the process some people became depressed.

However, the recently introduced conditions of the new relaxed Alert Level 1, regulations allow sporting activities to resume and a gathering of no more than 2000 people to attend an outdoor sporting event at a stadium. With the new regulation in place, PMC optimized on the opportunity and resolved to host the Family Marathon annually going into the future.

The reintroduction of sporting activities will go a long way in lifting-up the employees and communities’ spirit. The surge in unemployment stats due to COVID-19, brought economic challenges to many households, including the extended families of our employees.

This initiative will serve as support towards our Employee Value Proposition and strengthen our business SocioEconomic Development strategy to contribute towards a sustainable economy in Ba-Phalaborwa.

PMC employees will be portraying one of our core values, Teamwork, during the planning and execution of this event. One of our government critical stakeholders, Limpopo Economic Development and Tourism (LEDET) has partnered with us in making the day a success.

“The organizing team of the PMC family day half marathon holds the sound health and safety of our employees, participants, volunteers, and attendees above all else. To ensure our event is as safe as possible, and you are comfortable both on and off the course, we’ll be implementing enhanced COVID safety measures, and will provide a comprehensive list of measures to reference well in advance of event day. Our team continues to work in direct coordination with local public health authorities to meet or exceed all local guidance, rules, and regulations.” Said Abby Ledwaba.
