Youth agency donates to schools in Bolobedu region

Executive deputy chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), Karabo Mohale, together with the acting mayor of Greater Letaba Municipality, Rito Baloyi, embarked on a back-to-school campaign in the Mopani district last Friday.

This comes after a needs assessment identified schools in Bolobedu to participate in the campaign that aims to improve the quality of education. The tour started at Mandela Barlow World Agricultural High School in Khekhwitini village, where the school received a donation of sanitary towels and mathematics study guides.

“Your dreams are valid, your dreams are important and they will come true, just believe in yourself and your ability to achieve great things,” Mohale told an assembly of learners.

The next stop was Molai Jubilee High School at Ga-Matipane, which received a donation of 200 school chairs, sanitary towels, and mathematics study guides. Karabo congratulated the school for its 68.9% matric pass rate in 2021 and challenged the class of 2022 to make history, with a pass rate of 80%.

“Remain humble and disciplined, we are here to support you. You matter — we see you and recognise your efforts and hard work.” The last stop was at Bolobedu Primary School in Khetlhakone, where parents and community members gathered to assist in repainting classroom walls.

The school also received a donation of ablution facilities, seeds, and gardening equipment to supplement the school feeding scheme programme, as well as cultivate agricultural skills and knowledge in the school environment.

“We have noted that water and sanitation is a concern not limited to the school but throughout the village, and will continue striving to create partnerships with relevant stakeholders such as the NYDA, committed to addressing some of these challenges,” said Baloyi.

He commended the community’s involvement and added that ensuring that schools are clean and safe is a collaborative effort that requires active participation.

During the visit to Bolobedu Primary School in Khehlakone village, Mohale paid homage to the Modjadji royal family as per custom when one is in the Rain Kingdom’s vicinity on official duties. Ululations filled the atmosphere when Dikhadi of the Royal House, a body representative of women in the extended royal family, welcomed Mohale and her team.

The women were accompanied by royal spokesperson Phetole Mampeule, Balobedu Queenship head of administration, Tshepo Molokwane, and council member Ryan Modjadji, on behalf of his excellency Mpapatla Modjadji, the regent.

“Karabo is a daughter of the soil and it pleases us to see that in her many achievements, she has not forgotten the plight of young people in the villages, where she was also raised. We are proud of her accomplishments and look forward to engaging with her office in matters of development,” remarked Mampeule.
