Mopani district invests in water, says Shayi

Mopani District Municipality’s executive mayor, Pule Shayi says more people will be recruited in the current financial year to enhance the capacity of the municipality to deliver sustainable quality services to the people of Mopani.

He revealed this during his engagement with workers at Ba-Phalaborwa satellite office on Monday morning. Shayi, together with the speaker, Martha Maswanganyi, the whip of the council, Magdelene Lewele, and MMC Maditshego Sefufi visited satellite offices across the district.

He said the municipality saved millions of Rand in overtime payments by appointing additional firefighting personnel in the past two years, and the focus now is on strengthening the water services department.

“We have appointed additional 50 people in the water services department to help improve our capacity to deliver services faster. “They have started work this month. We will be employing more people by end of February. “Our focus now is to enhance capacity in the water services department because the provision of water and sanitation is our core function.

“We have noted the concerns as raised by the workers during our engagement, and we have committed to resolve the issues. “But we have also implored them to continue providing services to our people with humility,” he said
