Police in Limpopo arrest more than 2500 suspects

Police in Limpopo have arrested 2534 suspects aged between 19 and 47, for crimes ranging from murder, robbery, carjacking, possession of unlawful firearms, possession and dealing in drugs, theft, illegal immigration, possession of suspected stolen property, assault to illegal trading in liquor.

The suspects were arrested during a week of heightened joint operations that were conducted from January 2 to January 9.
In an intelligence driven operation, four alleged business robbery suspects aged between 18 and 22 were arrested for a crime committed at Mapuve village near Giyani earlier.
Police say they recovered three unlicensed firearms, two empty magazines, two silver Norinco pistols with magazines, four rounds of live ammunition and one cartridge believed to be used during the crime.

The suspects were also found in possession of suspected stolen property that included groceries, a Samsung Plasma TV and a LG music system. In another operation conducted in Sekhukhune on the same day, six suspects aged between 25 and 48 were arrested at Leeufontein in the Motetema area.
The suspects were arrested for conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, attempted murder and possession of housebreaking equipment.

Police recovered one 9mm pistol with three live rounds of ammunition, cartridges of a AK47 rifle, SANDF uniform balaclava, gloves, angle-grinders, equipment for breaking in as well as three vehicles which were allegedly used by the suspects.
On Tuesday, January 4, police arrested a 39-year-old suspect for allegedly raping his 12-year-old daughter at Tshirolwe village in the Mphephu area in Vhembe.In another successful operation, police in Mankweng arrested a wanted suspect, Tshepo Steven Botabota (28), who was allegedly terrorising communities in the area.

He was arrested on Thursday, January 6, in Germiston and was brought to Mankweng where he was positively linked with several cases of house robbery, theft out of motor vehicles, murder and robbery with a firearm. The crimes were allegedly committed between April and June last year. He appeared in court on Friday January, 7.
Provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe has applauded the operational members who participated in the operations for their determination.
