Unleashed Dog Park turns one

The unleashed dog park in Hoedspruit was the place to be for dogs, puppies and their owners as the park turned one on Saturday, October 30.

Co-founder of the park, Cherilynn Janse van Rensburg told the Herald that the turnout for their first birthday was wonderful and a success.

“The puppies loved the cake and everyone enjoyed the day,” she said.

She also said the party was amazing with the dogs running through the pond and playing in the dirt. Cherilynn said the community of Hoedspruit has been supportive since the park opened its doors.

“The support from dog owners has been wonderful and the park has become a keen meeting place for dog owners and a place for puppies and adult dogs to learn to interact with others in a hospitable manner,” she said.

When asked how the idea of the dog park came about, she told the Herald that the abundance of dog owners who live in wildlife estates in the region drove the need for such a facility.

“Dog owners needed a place where they can let their puppies off-leash to be free and run around without neighbours complaining about noise. The need for dogs to learn to socialise properly in our society was also a driving factor,” she said.

She thanked dog owners who brought their dogs to the party.

“Thank you for the year of support and for being there on the day. We look forward to improving the park with your input going forward so please don’t hesitate to contact us with your ideas and concepts that you would like us to import into the facility,” she said.

She said the dogs were treated to a delicious cake made by Susan Marias from Koeke en Krummels, whom she said is highly recommended for both human and doggy birthday treats. For more information on the park visit www.unleasheddogpark.co.za where you can also sign up for membership.
