Uncle in court for allegedly raping 14-year-old niece

“After opening the door, he told her to go to his room, he opened a wardrobe and took out a firearm and told her to undress while pointing her with a firearm.”

A former member of Hoedspruit Community Police Forum who was granted R2000 bail by the Hoedspruit Magistrates in August, reappeared on Monday, September 13.

According to Hoedspruit police spokesperson, Sgt Livhuwani Mulaudzi, the 38-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 14-year-old niece in June.

Mulaudzi said the incident took place on June 10 at about 23:00 at Finale village outside Hoedspruit. “The uncle was at one of the taverns drinking when he saw his niece, he called her to come to the tavern and she did as she was told.

He gave her R100 to buy soft drinks for herself and waited for him to go home,” said Mulaudzi. At about 22:00, the 38-year-old uncle told his niece that they will sleep at his place because it was already late, he told her she will sleep with her grandmother.

Mulaudzi said the girl agreed to go with him. “It is further alleged that when they arrived at his place, she was told to climb into a window and open the door for him.

“After opening the door, he told her to go to his room, he opened a wardrobe and took out a firearm and told her to undress while pointing her with a firearm,” Mulaudzi said.

She said the uncle instructed the girl not to scream and threatened to shoot her, he then raped her multiple times until the morning.

“Early in the morning he gave her another R100 and told her not to tell anyone. Later her mother heard rumours from community members and she confronted her daughter. The daughter admitted that the rape took place at her grandmother’s house,” she said.

The mother then reported the matter to the police and the uncle was arrested on June 30. The man will re-appear on Wednesday, October 27.
