Cable theft a problem in Namakgale

Eskom is experiencing a disturbing increase in incidents of cable theft in Namakgale.

According to Modjajdi Baloyi, provincial spokesperson of Eskom, the theft hampers delivery of electricity services to customers, and negatively affects the lives of the people, as well as the township’s economy.

“In an effort to contain outages, electricity-related injuries, fatalities, an economic crisis, as well as to ensure good quality of supply, Eskom warns the public against infrastructure and electricity theft. If it is not contained, this scourge could lead to job losses in our already-ailing economy and to injuries and possible loss of lives,” she explained.

Members of the public are encouraged to report electricity and infrastructure theft anonymously to 0800 11 2722. The identity of those who report theft incidents will remain completely protected at all times.
