Music runs in little Mogale’s veins

"Gradually he got into the rhythm of the songs and last year he started developing an interest in playing more instruments and the keyboard became his next instrument."

His family thought he was just being a naughty child when he used pots and wooden spoons to ‘play’ drums at the age of two.

Little did they know that Mogale Richard Majozi (10) is a talented young boy who loves playing musical instruments. Mogale is the firstborn child, and he and his family reside at Nkowankowa section C.

He plays the drum, keyboard, and bass guitar. “He grew up like any other kid, but it all changed when he was about two years old going to three. This change came in the form of him trying to play drums on the household pots and wooden spoons.”

“We lost many wooden spoons in that process, but this is when we realised that he had a God-given talent,” said his mother Felicia Mashila-Majozi. She said they bought him a one-piece drum when he turned three.

“It lasted for about four months, it broke due to the beating it got. We then later got him a drum set for ‘3-years plus’. We then realised the potential he had,” she said. Mogale’s mother said chaos broke loose when they bought him a junior drum when he turned five.

“He would practice morning, day, and night, we had to contend with the noise in the house. A year later he joined the worship team as a drum player at the Harvest Time Church in Nkowankowa under Apostle VV and Apostle E Hlongwana.

She said every chance he got to play in church was like a golden opportunity for him. “Along the way, he would make mistakes and go off-tune at times, but what was impressive about him was that he would learn from his mistakes. “

Gradually he got into the rhythm of the songs and last year he started developing an interest in playing more instruments and the keyboard became his next instrument. He slowly got the hang of it and is now a good keyboard player,” she said.

He also plays the keyboard during his family’s daily evening prayer. He recently started playing the bass guitar, mentored by Comewell Nhlangwini. His mother told Herald that as a family they support his talent. “

His school teacher, Lindiwe Chimombe, also attests that Mogale is a talented young boy. “He is a boy of many talents, he only needs to be given the right direction to excel in everything,” she said.

His parents wish for the young man to become one of the best musicians in the world. Mogale hopes to perform on television and wants to host a concert for his age group to encourage his peers. He wishes to one day meet the award-winning traditional
