Mopani District Municipality warns service providers of tender scam

The Mopani District Municipality (MDM) has cautioned service providers to avoid being scammed.

“We have been made aware that certain crooked individuals are masquerading as officials from MDM attempting to defraud unsuspecting business people who have tendered to be on the panel of contractors,” said MDM spokesperson Odas Ngobeni.

He said these fraudsters send out emails from a gmail account purported to be from Quiet Kgatla the municipal manager.

“We alert members of the public that the gmail account is not that of the municipal manager for MDM. We, therefore, wish to advise business people to be vigilant and not to respond to the email. We acknowledge that our people are desperate for opportunities as we are faced with tough economic times, but we should not fall prey to these fraudsters,” he said.

Ngobeni urged interested service providers to never pay individuals for tenders and report all suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
