Boxer stores get back to business

Popular discount retailer rejoices in South Africa’s spirit of ubuntu following a week of destruction.

Boxer Superstores outlets affected by the violence and looting of last week are being rebuilt where necessary, restocked and reopened.

Despite it being a challenging week, which resulted in several store closures in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, one of Africa’s favourite discount supermarket brands is committed to championing its communities, says Boxer managing executive Marek Masojada.

Boxer, which recently embarked on a highly successful Covid-19 registration and vaccination campaign with the Department of Health, says although the pain and destruction cannot be swept away, it can be met with compassion and perseverance.

“We will not give up. We are here to serve our loyal customers. We have seen hundreds of people come to Boxer every day and help clean up. It’s incredible to see the helping hands from so many who want to see their store back in action,” says Masojada.

Masojada says like other retailers, Boxer’s Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal stores were hardest hit, but the teamwork and united front shown by its various teams overtook all other aspects of the situation. “Our teams have raised their hands to be leaders, especially in those two provinces.

“Everyone is on board and working tirelessly to make a difference. Outpourings of support from customers at our doors have been met with smiles and tears of joy as our store teams are thanked by their communities,” says Masojada.
