Nkowankowa Taxi Rank doing its part in preventing the spread of Covid-19

The local rank is one of the ranks that takes Covid-19 safety regulations very seriously.

Ever since the start of the global pandemic, this busy rank has been consistent with following safety measures.

The Herald spoke to queue marshall, Jimmy Shivambu, who is one of the people who ensures that the area is not a breeding ground for the virus.

“Every taxi is disinfected every day early in the morning before they go on the road.

“After that I disinfect the whole rank, including the pavement, poles or any surfaces our passengers and drivers may come into contact with,” he explained.

Some of the commuters confirmed to the Herald, that they too have noticed the efforts of the Nkowankowa Taxi Association regarding protecting their clients from contracting the virus.

Queue marshalls and drivers are committed to seeing that every passenger in their taxis wear a mask and, after paying their fare, every passenger is asked to sanitise.

If someone do try to board without a mask, he or she will be asked to disembark.

However some commuters did remark that there are drivers who do not keep sanitisers in the taxis and passengers are forced to use their own sanitisers.

One thing is clear everyone has a role in preventing the spread of the virus.

The department of Health recently announced that citizens between the ages of 35-49 can now register to get their vaccination from Thursday, July 15 on  https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za/#/
