Make a difference this Mandela Day

CHoiCe Trust has partnered with the Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce to make a big impact in the community.

They have identified 67 vulnerable households that they will assist through their Winter Blanket and Food Drive. Rona McGaffin from CHoiCe Trust said the initiative is part of commemorating Mandela Day.

“July 18 commemorates Mandela Day and often businesses do not realise where the biggest need lies. To ensure that the blankets and/or food reach the most vulnerable, CHoiCe approached the chamber for assistance. As a health organisation, CHoiCe has volunteers working in the Greater Mopani area and the volunteers have identified 67 households that need help the most. Most of these households are headed by children, the elderly, or people needing palliative care,” she said.

ChoiCe Trust is a sustainable NGO that has been operating in the Greater Tzaneen area since 1997. Rona said their volunteers are working timeously towards making a difference in the lives of vulnerable people.

She told Herald that they (the volunteers) are committed to helping and that any donation, big or small, will go a long way in ensuring that a household will sleep warm.

“We implore business and individuals to support this worthy cause, they can rest assured that the donation will go to the people it is intended to go to. Now is the time to give if you have the means to give, in true Mandela spirit,” she said.

She said the donated items will be delivered to each household personally by the volunteer working in that area.

“Businesses are welcome to accompany the volunteer to see what happens to their donation. We have received numerous blankets and food from organisations such as Merensky High School, Inkwazi farm, Colourweiss and others,” she said.

On Wednesday, July 7, the Satellite E-club of the Baobab Rotary Club donated 70 blankets.

“A massive appreciation for the blankets, all blankets and food will be handed over during the next few days. CHoiCe would like to thank all donors and sponsors who have given generously to this project. No donation is too big or too small,” she said.

Anyone interested in donating blankets or food can visit the CHoiCe offices at 12 Park Street or they can contact Rona on 0832563111 to be collected.

Donations can also be made on choicetrust.org.za and will be used to buy blankets.
