Ntwanano cycles from Pretoria to Tzaneen to help villagers

Local cyclist and philanthropist, Ntwanano Ngobeni and a group of friends will be cycling over 400km from Pretoria to Tzaneen for charity.

Ngobeni was born and bred in Joppie village in the N’wamitwa area and has been giving back to his village for the past few years now.

Although he lives in Tzaneen now, he says he cannot bear the thought of others living in difficult circumstances.

This year he will be donating 21 wheelchairs, 10 walking sticks and 8 walking frames to the Joppie Disability Centre.

He will also be donating groceries to various families in the village and he has partnered with the Department of Health who will be donating sanitary pads to the women of Joppie.

“After learning about the challenges that people living with disabilities face, I felt the need to do something about it.

“Some of these people are stuck in their houses because of the lack of wheelchairs.

“They are also unable to visit the local disability centres, because of their immobility.

“We are hoping that the donations will make their lives easier,” he explained.

Ngobeni will be joined by fellow cyclists from Gauteng, Mokopane, Polokwane, Louis Trichardt and Tzaneen.

The first leg of the trip will commence on Friday 23 April in Pretoria to Mokopane with a distance of 188km.

The next day they will cycle from the pit stop to Tzaneen, a distance of 155km.

On Sunday they will leave Tzaneen and cycle to Joppie, where the hand-over will take place.

Ngobeni is calling on cyclists and runners to join him at the venue.

He has also urged residents to donate whatever they can.

“If you don’t have anything to give, just give your time and join us on the day,” he added.
