It is ‘monkey business’ in Tzaneen’s suburbs

The monkeys in Tzaneen will leave you smiling as they are forever on some mischievous adventure.

A Tzaneen resident, Tasneem Latib, could not stop laughing when a troop of naughty monkeys paid her a visit.

One of the monkeys jumped onto an outside table that was packed with dishes.

He grabbed a small silver bowl and ran off with it and jumped into the trees.

While this was happening, another one climbed onto her 3-year-old’s scooter.

The ordeal which lasted for almost ten minutes was exciting to witness according to Latib.

“My little 3-year-old actually alerted me of the situation. She was watching them from the window and called me saying that I must come and see the monkey is taking her ‘scooty’. When I got there the monkey was standing next to it holding the handles. “

The next minute he climbed onto it and stood up holding the handles.

He then lost interest and followed the other monkey that took my bowl,” she said.

Latib said that what she found funny was that the bowl did not have food inside, but as empty as it was, the monkey still took it.

She told Herald that the monkeys visit her house every second day in their search for food. “It was quite funny and exciting to witness. Who would have thought a monkey would know how to do that?”

She said even though they are used to seeing them every now and again they are still a little afraid of them.

“They tend to come into the house if the windows and doors are open.”

• Animal activists are urging residents not to feed the monkeys as they are wild animals and will become used to being fed.
