According to the police the man stopped at the hiking pick-up point next to CTM on the R36 at about 23:20 on Friday.
“He gave a lift to one female and three males heading towards Mokgolobotho. One of the men on the backseat of the car pointed a firearm at him.
“The occupants instructed him to drive into the bushes where they searched him and robbed him of R9 050 in cash.
They then left him there.
“The victim further alleges that he can only identify the lady and the man who pointed the firearm at him,” explained Sgt Maurice Nkhwashu, spokesperson of the Tzaneen Police Station.
Nkhwashu urges motorists to refrain from giving lifts to people they don’t know and to avoid giving lifts to large numbers of people.
“We also appeal to pedestrians to stop hitch-hiking as it is not safe.
“If it late at night, rather go to the police station and we will assist with finding reliable transport on your behalf,” he added.
