Two youngsters start their own water business

Water challenges led to two youngsters from Tshamahansi in Kgapane outside Modjadjiskloof to start their own water company.

Mankweng Maake (21) and Tsakani Ngobeni (20) are now providing purified water to their local community, through their water bottling business.

In November 2019, Maake started on his own and last year Ngobeni joined him as a partner.

The name of their product is ‘Drink Water’ and in the near future they plan to be a fully functional purification plant.

“This business is initiated due to the lack and remote access to clean water thereof.

“Residents in remote areas acquires water from rivers and dongas which are inevitably

contaminated.

“This brings about health risks amongst the residents.

“Therefore ‘Drink Water’ aims to supply purified water to residents that lack clean water.

“We supply a quality product to our target market to prevent and control health risks, ” they explained.

The pair stated that their wish is to create employment in order to build the economy of the township.

Ngobeni is currently studying Informatics at the University of Johannesburg and Maake will be looking after the business.

As with every business, they also face challenges including lack of honouring orders by customers.

“We had financial issues in the beginning that made our goals seem impossible to achieve, “We’ve experienced proposal rejections from businesses that we thought would elevate us to the next level.”However, with faith we worked through it,” they added.

Their clients include hotels, restaurants, schools, tuck shops and events such as parties and funerals.

They are currently running their business from home at number 68 Tshamahansi.
