Learners to receive food hampers

Limpopo education department has made arrangements for learners who are beneficiaries of the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) to receive food hampers which will cater for them while schools remain closed.

Departmental spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene said the NSNP will resume on 27 January to prepare hampers to the value of R273 per learner.

“The hampers should include all specified menu items, delivered in their original form and packaging. Schools that participate in the nutrition programme using the decentralised model will directly procure food stuff for their learners.”

Chuene said schools will directly communicate with parents and caregivers on when learners can come and collect hampers. Learners relying on learner transport to reach schools and also benefiting from the nutrition programme will be transported to school to receive their hampers.

She said district learner transport coordinators has been directed to assist schools in the coordination of this process.

Chuene said schools were further directed to develop workable mechanisms of distributing hampers within the guidelines of the adopted standard operating procedure for the prevention, containment and management of Covid-19 in schools.

“These require schools to adequately take into consideration aspects of wearing of masks, social distancing, hand washing and sanitising of frequently touched surfaces.”
