TZANEEN: Total Sports robbed again

Yet another Total Sport store in Tzaneen Crossing Mall has been robbed at a gun point.

The robbery took place on Sunday morning, 10 January at about 10:30, when six men wearing balaclavas with firearms entered the in the shop.

According to Sgt Maurice Nkhwashu, spokesperson for the police in Tzaneen, the men forced the employees and customers to the storeroom where they tied them up.

“They instructed the manager to open the safe and took R12 633 and various cellphones worth R83 433.

“The suspects then fled on foot,” he said.

A case of business robbery has been opened and the suspects are still at large.

In recent years both the Total Sports shops in Tzaneen Crossing and Tzaneng Mall has been robbed in a similar fashion.

In January 2020 the store in the Tzaneng Mall was robbed by five armed men getting away with cash and cellphones.

In January 2017 Markhams store in Tzaneen Crossing Mall was robbed of cellphones by four armed men, who also fled on foot.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, 30 December last year, the Ackermans store in Tzaneen Crossing was also robbed of cellphones and cash by men who fled on foot.

Nkhwashu said it is not known whether these robberies are connected as there has been arrests which suggests that it may not be connected.

He added that the police have consulted with stores and mall security guards to work together to prevent these crimes.
