Premier’s fund gets R200 000 for poor learners

The Limpopo Premier’s Bursary Trust Fund which assists indigent learners through the province to pursue their studies at institutions of higher learning received a significant boost recently.

The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) has jointly with its partner, the Sunshine Tour, contributed R200 000 to the bursary fund.

The chairperson of the LTA board, Andrew Dipela is pleased that the agency has been able to fulfill its promises to contribute to the Premier’s Bursary Trust Fund.

“Our gathering here today is to deliver on a promise that we made when we started the Limpopo Championship Golf tournament in 2019. From the onset we were clear that this should not just be an ordinary tournament that is played on our shores but should profile our destination as a leading golf and lifestyle destination while improving the livelihoods of our people,” said Dipela.

The premier, Chupu Mathabatha, received the donation accompanied by Limpopo Economic Development Environment and Tourism (LEDET) MEC, Thabo Mokone, as well as the chairperson of the Premier’s Bursary Trust Fund, Koko Khumalo.

“We wish to say to Sunshine Tour that the money that you invest in this province will yield good dividends. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. “What you did will always stay in the hearts of the people of Limpopo,” said Mathabatha.

Courtney De Barros of the Sunshine Tour expressed happiness at the association they have created with Limpopo through the Limpopo Championship Golf Tournament and that their cause to assist the needy is served by the contribution they have made.

The second edition of the annual Limpopo Championship Golf Tournament took place from 30 January to 2 February this year at Koro Creek Bushveld Golf Estate and Euphoria Golf and Lifestyle Estate in the Waterberg region, which is renowned for its great lush golf courses.

In 2020 the tournament took a major leap in becoming the first tournament in South Africa to be co-sanctioned by European Challenge Tour.

Within its short existence, the tournament has become a fully-fledged international golf tournament with prize money increase from R 1 500 000 to R 3 500 000. The success of the tournament made a significant contribution to community development, which was welcomed by the Limpopo provincial government.

This year the tournament created much needed temporary jobs, promoted youth golf development, and procured products and services from local businesses.

Dipela concluded by announcing the date of the 3rd edition of the Limpopo championship as 25 to 28 February next year in the two venues, Koro Creek and Euphoria Golf Estates.

He said that he expects the contribution to the bursary fund in 2021 to be twice higher than what has been contributed in 2020.
