Learners benefit from book donation
Nkateko High School learners rejoice after being awarded prizes along with poetry books and certificates of achievement from mining suppliers, Springbok Group last Wednesday.
According to the donors, the event formed part of giving back to the community. Springbok Group, stepped forward to promote literature and reading in local schools.
The company recognised and rewarded the top achievers in each grade.
The poetry books are written by an award-winning local author Zani Kutumela, who also graced the event.
The initiative was well received by the school Principal and educators.
The principal, Thomas Ngwenya expressed sincere gratitude and commended Springbok Group for planting confidence in their learners.
The schools’s English teacher Lionel Langa, praised the company for the initiative and cultivating an ethos of reading in their school.

The local author and poet who was also the motivational speaker during the ceremony, addressed the learners encouraging them to have dreams.
She concluded with a recital, delivering a vivid performance of, “My Walls Witnessed My Murder” which is the third poem in her book Rerouting.
The poems criticises Gender Based Violence and the abuse of children.
According to the Springbok Group, public relations officer, Tsakani Mathebula, reading books helps to increase the vocabulary of pupils, improves the comprehension and study skills, and builds their self-esteem and social awareness.

She expressed hope that the books will help to equip learners to become leaders.
“We want to nurture and support a culture of reading in local schools. Through this donation, we want learners to learn to cherish good books, to read as often as possible, and to enjoy reading as a constructive way of spending their time,” she expressed.
She further mentioned that even though we live in an age of Internet and smartphones, of viral YouTube clips, Facebook chats, tweets and WhatsApp messages, “but I want to encourage everyone to at least find a good book and start reading it,” she concluded.
